Electronic components are usually small electronic items that are used in circuit boards. They are normally soldered onto circuit boards via the connecting leads or the metallic protection that the component is usually surrounded in. The components can be said to be the smaller part of the larger product. Their creation will be for a particular function, as the way components are used together determines its operation.
Electronic components can be split into a whole range of different categories, as there are many components that are often needed for a simple function. Within each component, there will generally be off-shoots of the component itself to offer a variation. This may be a variation in efficiency, quality or even a variation on the function itself. Popular components are items such as capacitors, resistors, switches, LEDs, and connectors, to name but a few. These will be the basics in any electronics toolbox. To make use of the components will require some specialist tools such as a soldering iron with a stand, solder, cutters, pliers, wire stripper, PCB rubber, and even maybe a small electronic drill if wanting to make holes in the circuit board.
Many stores, on the high street and online specialise in the sale of electronic components, whether they be quite popular components that are used frequently for a majority of functions, or rare components that may be more difficult to get hold of. Companies who specialise in this will usually have a massive range for both advanced users of electronic components, and even the novices just starting out.
