Building a PC from scratch is something that many people do for various reasons, for example some people will do this in order to save money, as it is cheaper than buying a prebuilt computer, whilst others will do it just for fun.
One of the advantages of building your own PC from scratch is the fact that you can customise it is suit your exact specifications. As you have complete control of the components used in the machine you'll be able to design to run exactly how you want it t. If you want to play the latest high end games then you're going to need a PC with plenty of powerful hardware and graphics acceleration, however if you're just going to use it for typing and word processing then you won't need to use such powerful hardware.
Everything down to the type of power supply you use is up to you. If you're building a PC from scratch to use as a server then you may want to consider placing various protective measures in place, as networks served by this machine will rely on its stability. For example, UPS batteries might be used to help prevent the computer from being affected by a power cut. UPS batteries will also protect the machine against power surges. If you're worried about your computer overheating then there are plenty of solutions to help lower the temperature. Some people will even go as far to install specialist water cooling systems to help their PC run at the correct temperature.
