The OGS 145 takes full advantage of the Sussex Air Cushion film measuring head. It gives totally non contact measurement of the film so the head neither scratches the surface nor picks up any surface contaminants. It can be installed on any type of “ring” system to scan around the bubble where it is still circular, between the stabilizing cage and the collapsing frame. The air cushion head operates at the highest film speeds, - well over 200 M/Min without the loss of accuracy associated with a contact head.

The robotic arm uses a stepper motor driven precision screw actuator. The motor driver is an advanced micro-stepping driver giving fast response and “vibration free” position control. It gives high efficiency control of the motor with communications to the OGS control cabinet via an RS485 Port. The small orbital cabinet contains the stepper drive unit, a dual power supply, an air cooling
fan and comprehensive safety features.

Two ultrasonic sensors measure distance to the film and enable the Robotic Arm to position the head a constant distance from the bubble, as its rotating carriage scans a 360 degree arc. This arrangement allows the bubble to be both off-centre and slightly off vertical relative to the ring. A Magnahelic indicator shows the air cushion pressure, and is used while setting the pressure regulator. An automatic pressure trip prevents the system being used without air.

Robotic Arm Range
The range of the smallest actuator arm is 450mm and this is manually extendable for larger or smaller bubbles by use of the 250mm slide at its base.

OGS Control cabinets
There are two alternative forms of OGS control cabinet.
    1. OGS 145 is the basic OEM system with information transmitted via an RS485 link to the OEM computer where the Profile Thickness display is shown. A 6” TFT Colour screen is used purely for diagnostic purposes and for an operator to use when testing the system. It needs no keyboard, just two buttons on the front panel.

    2. The OGS 150 has a 12.1” TFT Colour Screen, and software for the many graphics plots as a standalone unit near the operator station on the line. For operator control, there is a touch screen alternative to the keyboard shown on the photograph .
